glow plug change?

Hey guys I asked my local ford dealer when to change your glowplugs but they wont tell you anything. Im at 105K and the PO didnt say anything about that he had changed them. When I bought the truck it had 72K on it.

Thanks,

-AJ

Changing them is considered good routine maintenance. It wouldn't hurt to change them now with OEM glow plugs which are the Motorcraft ZD-11's. Only use them as the other brands are not so good.

It is also a great time to inspect the valvetrain and retourque everything. Also you should do the fifty cent mod to the UVCH.

Performing that will keep the truck running great and will keep you out of the shop and off the side of the road for any of the normal no start or UVCH issues.

After what I found on my UVCH this weekend I urge you to do this. I had 5 bad GPs and a badly burnt valve cover gasket and UVCH on the passenger side. Both plugs were backed out so 50 cent mod was done at the same time. This repair also made me notice my leaking fuel bowl and my turbo seeping oil.

Where can I find info on the 50 cent mod, what it is and how to do it?
I didn't see it in the common mods sticky-

Thanks

I called the other day to my Ford dealer and the parts guy said you should change the glow plugs when they go bad, one at a time style. However, he also said the mechanic that does the changes for customers as needed, changes all his glowplugs in his 7.3 every 100,000.

I have read about these dual coil glow plugs but seems they are for older 7.3 like pre psd 7.3s. Can I get the motorcraft/beru dual coil glow plugs for my 2001?

is it ok to use dielectric grease on the VCH plug on the outside of the VC? and also for the big black and red plug with screw in the center? I would think so but just want to make sure before i do something that could mess something up

thanks,

I greased up those connectors several years ago and haven't had any issues. This is the stuff I used
Electrical Grease

Per Ford's instructions, I smeared it liberally all over the connector and pins and re-assembled. Seemed odd to me but if you read their tech papers that is how it's supposed to be used. I've pretty much used it on every electrical connector in the engine bay and the engine runs very smooth. Of all my trucks, this one runs the best.
