He's had a couple of injectors go bad filling up the crankcase with fuel, clutch, water pump, and some other stuff engine related, and of course all of the electrical gremlins associated with owning a Dodge. He also is behind me by around 50,000mi.

I've got two friends who in the last two months trade off thier Duramax's because of injector failures.

I also run into a friend with an '06 6.0 the other day and the first thing he told me was he wanted to trade off his truck because he just sunk $10,000 into it, head gaskets, coolers, and injectors. I just shook my head and told him my '07 is by far the best truck I have ever owned.

This thread shows more than anything preventitive maintainence is key.
Use of a high quality oil and diesel fuel additive along with all other maintainence is paramount to longevity.

I don't have the miles on my truck like some here do (110k currently) but my truck has had it's share of problems. Replaced the ICP (original) at 42k miles while still under warranty. The four injectors on the odd side were because 3 were toasted...low fuel pressure; I had been warned, but I didn't pay attention to it....trust me when I say I monitor my fuel pressure now. I still not sure how I managed to crack an injector tip...but that was 20k miles ago and knock on wood everything has been well since then. Everything else my truck as seen the inside of a shop for are either PM (tires, oil changes, etc) or body work.

For the record, the stock front end sheet-metal will not survive unscaved after taking down a 6 point buck at 70mph. But I drove away, what was left of Bucky was possum food right then & there.

When it comes down to it. 6.0 parts are plentiful and overall cheap. And the motor isn't to bad to work on. For the price of 1 dodge tranny installed you can make your 6.0 a 300k truck. Thats 2 or 3 trannys on a dodge. It all evens out pretty well over the whole thing. If I had to buy a new truck right now, I would snag a 07 f350 6.0 auto lb duelly all day long.

You guys are all bashing Dodge trannnies, but I'm hoping these newer trannies are decent because on my 7.3, I went thru 3 trannies before 200,000 miles.

The 7.3 had about the same tranny reliabily as the Dodge, but as far as I know, the torkshift is far better. Just finished doing an engine swap on my son in laws Dodge, and the tranny isn't very impressive looking from the outside - looks like a powerglide with a long tailhousing. His has 166,000 km (100,000 miles) and the oil is black and there's metal on the magnet, told him to get his wallet ready for a new tranny in the next while.

Your van should have the 5R110 TorqueShift...which behind a stock 6.0L is pretty dang bulletproof. The only catch is you need to do the servicing on it routinely (not a big deal when you think about it). No more than every 30k miles...some are swapping 8 qts of Mercon LP every 15k and the external filter. If you start pumping up the power on the engine...you'd better do the same with the slushbox or you'll find the limits of the tranny.

i think this thread has some great info in it! all in all it cost to maintain any truck. cant remember who said it but just because a CP3 goes out doesnt mean that the whole system is trashed. personally i like the common rail set up. i also like our HEUI set up as well. i will never own a dodge simply because you buy a cummins and they give you the rest of the truck for free. my dad's dmax has 192k on it and will turn 200k within the next 2 months. only thing he has had to replace was a few thermostats (seem to go bad alot on dmax's) and a tranny because he wasnt thinkin and pulled a D6 dozer up one heck of an incline in race mode (shattered the tc) but this was his own fault. other than that injectors have been good, turbo is great, and he still gets great fuel mileage and will beat me all day long (from a roll). thats just my take on things and i also think that the new 6.7 is one heck of a beast! best motor i think ford designed since the 7.3! and yes i know international made the 7.3 and what not just figure of speech i guess. it seems to be holding up and has plenty of power!

About a month ago there was a 2006 Dodge 2500 Cummins for sale, had 556,000 miles on it. doesn't sound like he had too much down time putting transmissions on.

i always buy fuel from cenex as much as i can. i see an improvement in fuel mileage when switching form something else to cenex as there isnt a cenex everywhere. i has never had water in any of my fuel. i just opened the drain for the filter on my 105 gal tank in the back of my 6.0(15gpm pump for the skidder or dozer) and thats been on there for 5 years. not a bit of water. no water in the 300gal fuel trailer my cousin pulles around. filters been on there for quite some time. oh btw, my cousin has been runing offroad in his 2012 duramax and hasnt seen any problems in 7500mi. still has dpf, but not 4 long. i always say that with diesels, it really matters where u get ur fuel. 20000+hrs on my c16 in my peterbilt and no water problems. never had any with cenex fuel. oh btw the pete is a log truck and only has like 450k on it. hours are so high because of the loading. i think 20000hrs would be equal to around or over 1 million if it were an over-the-road truck.and no rebuilds. btw i love my 6.0. only expensive repair was the ficm which if i wouldve been on here sooner, i wouldve found out about ed at ficmrepair.com and never wouldve gotten a $1100 bill for that thing.

There is no such thing as LP, Troy, unless we're talking vinyl. It was Mercon SP, now Mercon LV.
