Has anyone run Zmax oil treatment in our somewhat modern modular motors? Ive got an '08 with the 5.4L. Im thinking its snake-oil. Thinking it would be good to run here in the north for the cold winter startups. Also, how would this affect the motor knowing that so many parts run on oil pressure and/or oil driven. Thanks
In the colder areas it is a good idea to run something to help keep your cylinders oiled better for the cold start ups that is for sure. Whether you use z max or lucas or something else I would recommend it. It should not effect anything in the engine in a negative way.
Ok thanks. I've tried searching this forum and others, not much for concrete facts. Im going to keep searching a bit longer before I decide to try ZMax or possibly Lucas.
It would be nice if there were as many threads on this topic as there are on programmers and exhaust systems.
I live in Nova Scotia,Canada,on the Atlantic Coast next to the Bay of Fundy, gets pretty cold here at times.I use lucas oil stabilizer with 5w20 shell oil, talked to a ford mechanic with 25 years experience and he said my 07 5.4 would run just fine and it would be great for cold weather start ups.
I add a few ounces of Justice Brothers Heavy Duty Vehicle to my oil at every change, though I can't say I notice any difference. I did accidentally run one of my (leaky) trucks almost completely out of oil and with no ill effects, so who knows. It's inexpensive though, and a bottle lasts a VERY long time since you're only adding a few ounces per oil change.
Next oil change, think Im going to try some Lucas. Its easy to find and Lucas Oil has been around the block a few times. I Will post with any further findings.
I have never run any oil additives in any vehicle I've owned and have never had an oil related problem. I've gotten well over 100K miles out of every engine I've had. In my newer stuff (01 Sable 3.0L 24v, 02 Taurus 3.0L 24v, and 06 F150 5.4L). I've been running Motorcraft 5w20 with FL820S oil filters and regular 4000 mile oil changes. Never any cold weather start up problems. And it does get pretty cold at times in northern Indiana.
