transmission ? please help!!!

Hi I have a 97 f150 4.6 4x4 with a 4r70w id tag # f65pc-a. My trans went out the other day and I have located some transmissions that match, but I have also found some that are 4r70w's that I would much rather have for cheaper. For instance I found one out of a 98 mustang with a b&m shift kit. If i take off the tail shaft and bolt up mytransfer case can i put that trans in my truck? Why does ford make it so hard to match up and find parts? What transmissions can I put in my truck? Am I really limited to the F65pc-a?

The mustang trans will not work. You need to find an f150 4x4 4r70w from either a 97 or 98. Later years might work also, but I think they changed electronics in 99.

My buddy is going to school to be ASE certified and he is going to build one for me this fall. is there any mod's anyone knows of or good things to do while hes in there? I heard about the J mod that ford is supposed to have but they have heard nothing about it??
