Tranny Went Out

I have a 1997 F150 4x2 and my trans went out on me today. What year 4R70W trans can I use in my 97? I know they make them from 97-04 so I would like to put a newer trans in my truck with less miles.

My suggestion is to get a '99-'02. Your '97 requires a VSS to get the signel to the Speedo,somewhere in early '03-Ford quit splining the output shaft to drive the VSS. You can use a 4R70W out of anything except a police Crown Vic or a Town car-those have longer tailshaft extension housings.There are a few minor things that need to be done if you get a car trans,but they're easy.
You'll also need to repin the trans harness connector for the '98-up circuit pinout-but again-this is very easy.
