I think 77 was the cutoff for steering wheels and the 78-79 wheel is different. The wheel will physically fit but the pin that hits the cancel cam is different, the outside diameter of the shaft is larger and the horn is 2 spring loaded pins not just 1. I was able to make a 79 wheel work on my 77 by grinding down the shaft but it took an evening in front of the tv with a dremel.
