I am looking at buying an aftermarket smooth bumper pad, the plastic that is on the top of the bumper. I am only going aftermarket because its about 1/3 the cost of a factory smooth one, but I think I see the reason why. Part 5 (which I need) comes with the upper bumper pad and part 7 what they call the energy absorber. It cost almost $300 from my dealer, and they do not sell just the bumper pad alone, it comes with both parts. Now just the aftermarket smooth bumper pad is is $100 on eBay.
I am wondering if anyone has taken a 05-07 bumper apart, I want to know how this "energy absorber" fits in there. Is it attached in some way to the bumper pad?? I am just worried about getting this aftermarket bumper bad then then being screwed because it didnt come with the energy absorber. I figure there must the a reason the dealer packages them up as a set, or it is to just make more money???
I got one off of ebay and am not happy with the fit at all around the headlights next to the grill. It did come complete just used my old clips to the bumper and was back on the truck in 20 mins. See the pic below for the fit. This is the bumper cover I bought:
