New to the forum (not to ford) and after reading and learning more than I ever wanted to know about an E40D tranny I have broken down and come to the experts for help. I have a 92 Diesel F350 crew cab and the Tranny OD light flashes at me, but only in reverse, and only under a load. If I back out of the driveway it is fine, but backing up a hill it starts flashing. Once I start moving in drive the light goes away. The tranny was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago, and it runs beautifully, even in reverse. The only indication of an issue is the light, which goes away once in D. I haven't bought a code reader yet, it seems like such an odd issue I was hoping someone would be able to give me an idea or two to go check. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Interesting, I'll go check the connections tonight and make sure everything looks good. I think my brother may have another MLPS laying around I could try so at least I could rule that out. Thanks for the idea.
Ok, here is an update. I swapped out the Speed sensor in the rear end and the MLPS for ones I had laying around with no change in the symptoms. I did confirm that the OD light will start flashing in Drive as well as reverse, but only when first starting from a stop on a hill, or under a load. It then goes away as soon as you start moving fasser then about 2mph. I got some codes off of it, hope this helps...
67 - PNP or Clutch switch circuit failure
14 - Profile INS Pickup
29 - Open Vehicle Speed Sensor circuit (this was before I swapped out the speed sensor, not sure if it is still there)
Any other ideas? I'm running out of things to try.
id clear the code,go for a ride and see if code 29 is now gone.
E4OD Transmission diesel RPM sensor is code 14. so make sure your tach sensor is ok. does the tach show proper rpms without any jumping around, for starters?
67 is your MLPS.
since the trans has been rebuilt,it already has the updated MLPS? the new one simply plugged right in,without the need to re-pin correct?
