RE your tech article on changing tranny fluid in E4OD.
I have 1995 w/E4OD.
Any tips on this process other than whats written.
Just thought I would ask before I make a mess.
Does entire 18 qts drain at one time? Or does it start and stop? I suppose no reving the engine. Should I shift at all? When it gets to the end, will running it dry hurt the tranny.
only about 5? quarts will drain from the trans pan. most of the fluid will be in the torque converter and the tranny lines to and from the trans cooler. to properly flush a tranny, you need to flush the entire system. shops get $100+ for this service because of the machine that pumps the system throughout. it's best to do the entire system, otherwise you just mix a few quarts of fresh with the dirty, burned old fluid. worth the money.
