Not sure how that would work with backup sensors. Kind of renders them useless or even worse will be picked up by the sensors and beeping all the time in reverse. Not sure.
According to the website the sensor operation is not affected by the bumper.

I think you are overlooking the purpose. Many rear end collisions are less then 5 mph. Current collision standards I believe are 2 mph, and trucks are not covered by the standards.
You could probably dent your bumper with a rubber mallet.
This particular item has some energy absorbing capabilities, hence their sales pitch that it is better then leaving your hitch in.
