I am using Cat ELC concentrate because of availability. It costs $19.50 a gallon. Decided to change out the coolant reservoir also. Found a DORMAN 603-213 for $64.99 locally, with lifetime warranty. Figured that I might as well go all the way with this ELC change-out. The original coolant reservoir plastic was getting brittle, and probably didn't have much life left. Plastic technology has improved since 2002, I was told.
After two years I noticed a little of the coating was gone on the inside lip of my thermostat housing. I wonder why?
I bought six extra gallons of distilled water to flush out the block really good. On the forth and final flush I only pulled the block plugs out. The water came out with a great deal of pressure. If there was anything left in there it surely was forced out.
Ran a super thin line of high temp black gasket maker on the thermostat housing again and was blessed not to have a leak. The 2 block plugs had red factory sealant on the last three threads of the plug, so I did the same thing very lightly.
