Fix a problem to cause a problem/ need help on flush/eot-ect
Ok, so this weekend I decided to put on the sinister coolant filter to help my 6.0. I thought it might be a good idea to flush my system. Did that, and put on the coolant filter. NOW my eot and ect are in the high 190's( barely ever saw 190*F before flush) and goes to almost 210 up a not to huge hill. So I'm wondering if I just trashed my Oil cooler or if I should try to flush it again?
I used the Prestone flush and about 20gal of distilled water. Couldn't find restore so I went with that. I took the thermostat out and ran it for about an hr and also drove it around to get the temps up, then repeated with just distilled water until it was free of degree and clean. I understand the normal temp range but it just won't cool down like it used to. I had to pull off the freeway the other day cuz my ect was 200 and my eot 210.The whole reason I did the flush was because it was get close to 15*F difference.
I know this is a common problem that you could probably find on here, but mine seems different. Any help would be great
Thanks
Did you use oem orange coolant? If not, flush flush flush, and ONLY use orange oem coolant. The system is not designed to use anything else, and it can cause premature engine wear and failure.
That green stuff may as well be plutonium! Nuked engine! We're all gonna die!
Besides, if I'm wrong, you blew a couple bucks. If I'm not, you saved yourself an engine. I'm not much of a gambler, and I've heard MANY people say this with all sorts of stories. If they're full of it, a couple bucks, but if they're not, I saved a lot of headache.
Why would you pull over cause of ect/eot, at 210? Your thermostat doesn't fully open till 219*F. I don't know a whole lot about ELC, but others run CAT elc on here.
As long as you don't have a 15* spread between oil and coolant, with no load, normal cruise, you are probably fine. Maybe You have an air pocket in the cooling system, and that is why your temp's are higher than norm.
The coolant is not your problem. Its Internationals baby, not Fords. Many, many of us do not use the Ford coolant & its for a reason. Whats actually required is a ELC-1 coolant, not Fords "oem orange". I have been using Rotella what International uses for their engines which is whats in our Ford trucks with GREAT results. Did you "back flush"??????? Back flushing is very important. If you did, there could still be air in the system.
194 to 204 is 100% normal for the 6.0 ect. EOT should be within 15 degrees of ect when fully warmed up, 15 to 20 miles highway, on flat ground. Spread is not valid when climbing, cresting or descending an incline. Some use elc, I only use the premium gold or Zerex G05 which is the same. It isn't green, orange or pink.
Didn't back flush, so should I go pay someone to flush it with a machine? I just did it at my house. It's funny because I never saw my eot/ect climb above 200 before with out pulling or anything. That's why I'm kind of stuck on this. And I think as long as I dont use ford gold I should be fine on coolant( yes having cat-1 would be the best option) so I guess 225 would be high, and always watch for 15+ spread on the two
No back flush it yourself. To do it right it takes time. I would run the Restore then the Restore Plus because you probably only tickled it with the Prestone. The back flush the **** out of it..... Separately do the oil cooler, heater core, & block. Read this is you haven't already http://home.comcast.net/~lyon.family...ush%20v1-0.pdf

Many people here have used the gold for hundreds of thousands miles with no problem. Been using it since the truck was new. It's an 05. Others have had problems. Can't monitor maintenance records on everyone. Your choice but if you run the wrong stuff you will guarantee yourself problems.
I'd replace the thermostat. Perhaps it's being fickle. Dried out exposed to air, has some crud in it and not opening when it should. It's a $25 shot.

Allready tried that, I put a new one in and it was acting like what I've been talking about so then I swapped the old one back in thinking the new stat was a bad one and same thing happened. What I'm thinking is that I didn't flush it perfectly and I should do it again and back flush
