Cleaned EGR valve now black smoke

Cleaned the valve today, needed it was very dirty. Put new gaskets and o rings on vacumed out the manifold the best i could and put it back together. Started the truck smoked for a min then cleared up. Went for a drive and it fell on its face then blew black smoke and took off like a rocket. This would happen at almost every stop sign and when ever i backed out of it and then when to full throttle again. Any help would be great.

I don't think so, only because it should not have such an adverse effect on your performance. People disable their egr system or delete it with minimal noticeable performance hit. I clean my egr valve every 6-8mo, and it is carboned up and caked iwth soot every time. When I put it back in, it's looking good as new. I have NEVER had an issue like what you're describing.

I've never cleaned my turbo either, and I have 210k. As long as you keep it running and blow the crap out of it from time to time, that should never be an issue. This sounds like something else, as well. I'd climb back on top and pull the egr again and check everything out, put it back in and try again. Do you slide the valve to make sure it's not sticking? Also I only replace the gaskets and orings once every 3 cleanings, so if you pull it, just clean them up and lube them with oil before sticking htem back in and you should be fine.

it could be ur injectors. of cos, u can go to any autozone and have them scan for codes even with no CEL. it's supposed to be free.

if ur gonna check ur injectors, i'd check the ficm first b4 anything else. jus to be doubly sure. we have a test procedure in our tech folders.

btw, when u cleaned out ur egr valve, did u use carb cleaner to clean out the inside of the egr valve housing? it's the one where the egr valve popped out of. use carb cleaner and not brake cleaner. ford recommendations.

hope the info helps point u in the right direction.

Egr valve is sticking, looks like you will need a valve. Mine did the same thing I went and deleted the system then.

Try unplugging the egr valve and see if your problem goes away. Maybe some cleaning fluid got into the valve and damaged it.

Light came on and have a p0404 so it looks like the valve is bad or going bad. I unplugged it and had no problems on a short trip. Will drive around for a day or so to double check things before i get a new valve.
