Hello all, this is my first posting. I hope I'm posting in the correct forum. Anyway, I have recently installed a 7.5L E4OD in my '91 F150 Lariat xcab which came out of a '93 Econoline with 53k. I have a set of Thorley Tri-y's with 3" exhaust, adjustable fuel pressue regulator, MSD, 180 thermostat, K&N with factory air box, intake restrictors removed, factory 8.8 w/3.55 traction lock. The question is now, what next as far as performance upgrades? I know I am limited with the speed density and the original 8.8.
The truck has absolutely no traction from a stand still but runs extremely hard up to about 4500 rpm which I am told is due to the poor performance of the factory cylinder heads.
Re in"Car"nation High Performance - Re in"Car"nation High Performance - Home offers factory F3TE ported heads with 2.11 SS intake, ported intake and custom grind Voodoo cam which is supposed to add around 100hp that is compatible w/SD. Is this worth the $1800 price tag? Has anyone had experience with them?
At this point, what would be the best performance upgrade for the $$? Should I go with torque converter, top end, nitrous, MAF, etc?
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
Scotty is well known among 460 enthusiasts. I don't think you'll find anyone maligning him.
What do you intend to do with the truck?
How much horsepower are you ultimately looking to make?
How much is one horsepower worth to you? (then do the math at $18 each)
A 45% increase in horsepower, with the attendant gains in torque, is mighty impressive!
What injectors are you running?
Fix the rear end before your new engine fixes it for you.
...And be glad you can't get it to hook up.
There's a reason trucks didn't come from the factory with the 8.8 behind a 460.
Brian, if you can find an early 80s truck with a 9" rear it will probably hold up well behind the 460. The F3TE heads do have bigger valves and ports from the factory. A little compression goes a long way toward helping a 460, the later engines are 8.2:1 but the engine will run well at 9.2:1 to 9.5:1 on pump gas. If you can find a WAY1or VEX1 catch code ECM and an MAF from a 4.6L DOHC Lincoln, you can do what I am doing on my truck. You will need a TwEECer RT or similar and the tuning software to play with it. Just be aware any EEC you get has to be able to control the E4OD. Mine will be .040 over and I will be decking the block to bring the compression up some. BTW, my engine right now will light all 4 rear tires on my truck.
