So the cat was Plugged huh Figgured had to be bad EBP sensor or plugged exhaust 30 psi EBP at Idel was way off

wonder if your getting proper combustion
Hows the thermostat holding at 190 or higher

do you run cetain booster?? that might help

IIRC the cat bolts at a flange right before it you could Hollow it out its Bad anyway and if they say something then you might have to deal with it

I have an AM exhaust system so Im guessing at that Flange at the cat

Its a Great Feeling when you get the problem figured out without going to a shop

Boy I was wondering about how this all went down and thought why in the Heck didnt we catch on to this EBP problem sooner.

Well at the beginning of the thread we checked EBP at KOEO and got the Good Reading what would make sense but we also should check EBP at Idel at Idel I think EBP should only be 1-2psi higher at Idel than it was at KOEO not the 30psi at idel like you had

It makes sense we skipped a step in trouble shooting it thats My BAD. So basicaly we trouble shot the EBP sensor itself and didnt check the exhaust system.

I just thought WTF we should have caught this problem Fast Now I see where I went wrong. The Funney thing here is your second post you mentioned a clogged Exhaust

So let me ask 1 thing here earlier today when you were at Idel and you had an EBP of 30psi at Idel do you remember what MAP Reading was at that time??? during Idel IIRC it was same as BARO right??????????

You are correct. MAP was at baro at idle and real close all the rest of the time since there was no boost at all. BTW after you mentioned that 30 was high for idle, I went back to double check that number. Here's the whole story: right after start if it just idles, EBP was just a few psi above baro... around 18. (truck always ran fine at lower rpms). If I took it out on the road and got the EBP way up... it actually got well into the 50s at speed... and then idle at a stop light, it would show 30psi for a few seconds and then slowly go back down to around 19 or 20. Boost always near 0.0 and MAP always at baro or less So even if we checked it I don't think it would have jumped out at us.

Never got a high back pressure code either. The book says it takes above 38psi for over 30 seconds to cause that code. It must never have stayed that high for long enough the way I was driving it. There is something banging around inside the cat for sure so I'll knock that stuff down and leave it on the truck. Just need new bolts at the flange. The rest will be a cat back magnaflow SS system. I don't use any additives at all... never have. Would that maybe contribute to the cat issue?

As you say. Nice to get a problem licked without going to the shop. I have experienced that with my sparkies many many times but never with the diesel. This was really my first go-around with any diesel. You guys were a big help. I'm sure I will need more help along the way.
