FICM Question

My problem when starting my truck above 32 degrees is the truck wont move until the temperature gauges starts to rise. You can press the accelerator to the floor and nothing happens, once the truck starts to warm up you can move it and once it reaches 120 degrees or so you can drive it.

If it is below 32 degrees the truck will have to be restarted two or three times. Then the results are that same as above.

If I plug the truck in, I start it wait 2 minutes and drive away. It will take about a mile of driving before the truck is normal but you can drive it write away.

This is a 2004 6.0L stock.

Another issue I have when warm and pulling my trailer, about 6000 lbs or so. Is the truck will have no acceleration at times, this is rare and doesn't happen all of the time only once and while.

Does this sound like FICM causing both problems?

Have you checked for codes? If you don't have a ScanGauge or know someone with an AutoEnginuty you could swing by your local parts store and have 'em check for codes (most of them will do it for free). There are several things it could be from glow plugs not heating up (or not all of them) to FICM to injectors. Really to check for codes before throwing parts at the truck.

I haven't checked the codes yet. I was just wondering if the symptoms fit with the FICM or could it be a high pressure oil problem. I am planing on taking the FICM apart and doing the solder job, looks pretty easy. Just trying to figure out which way I should go with the issues I am having.

From the way you post, I wouldn't attempt the ficm repair till you know that is the problem. You could be screwing up a perfectly good ficm. When was the oil and filters last changed? are the filters OEM? When were the fuel filters changed and are they OEM. You leave more ?'s than info. You could also have injector stiction. Have you tried 5w40 syn. oil?

I just changed the oil, I used mobil delvac 15w40. I changed the oil and fuel filters and they are oem. I am running Stanadyne performance formula, this has made a big difference in the way the truck runs when staring cold and the performance when the motor warms up.
