Hard start and no power

Hi all..

have a 2004 with the 6 lit with 170K miles on it with not problems to date other than the turbo going at 90K.
Lately it starts really hard, have to glow the plugs 2 or 3 times and runs very rough even when in weather is very warm. Even if i have it running and than leave it standing for about 4 hours will start hard and i have to let it warm up. If i try to move to soon truck will not move, i can press peddle to the floor and RPM's to not rise and truck does not move. 5 minutes of warm up and truck runs good but not 100% i noticed when pulling my trailer up hills does not have the power it used to..

Any ideas ?

Chris

Sounds like you have severe sticktion in your injectors, generally that goes away after warm up but it is also possible you have a couple of borderline bad injectors. Assuming you have the latest calibration from Ford in your pcm, ficm, & tcm then you can try one of these oil treatments that are always being promoted to eliminate the sticktion. Pull codes and let us know if you have any cylinder contribution codes.

KR, Thank you for your support. We are working on a new website that should have more information and videos. HV I shipped out your order today. Do a simple video of your problems with your truck and then do another one in a few weeks. We can post it on the website.
Thanks,
Chris

got the hotshots and have been running it for about 3500 miles now and seems to have helped a little bit.. I am going to start running some fuel treatment and injector cleaner also to see if that helps.. Am ordering more hotshots this week to do another oil change.. maybe they are gunked up bad or maybe just time to replace.. guess i will find out soon

Alot of guys will recommend you use fuel additive in every tank, at least every other. 2 popular choices are Stanadyne and PowerService Diesel Kleen. Agreed with the latest flash, and what weight of oil are you running? I switched from 15-40 to 5-40 synthetic and that helped me, along with the Inductive Heat flash. My truck likes the syn a whole lot better than the dino oil.

The latest "flash" for the PCM (powertrain control mudule) Does your truck "buzz" for @ 10-15 seconds after you shut it off? If so that is an older program called the "buzz flash" where it hoped to prevent stiction in the injectors by cycling the oil out of them. The newer one, Ind. Heat flash heats the spools in the injectors and does much better with the stiction issue the 6.0's are known to have. It is harder on your charging system so you have to make sure your batteries and alternator are up to snuff, as this flash has been known to take out the FICM if your stuff ain't up to par. This flash has other benefits as well, and most here would recommend getting it. You go to the Ford dealer and ask for the latest upgrade for the PCM and it will cost in the neighborhood of 1hr labor, mine was right @ $100. But it works good. I'll see if I can find the list of everything it does, I believe its in the Tech Folder.
