Hate to bother all of you again with this annoying problem. Hear me out and you will see my concern. First the truck is currently 221 miles past the 100,00 mile warranty. I've had the truck to Ford several times with this complaint but they can't find a thing wrong with it. Could pull no codes. I'll try to explain this without boring you. Prior to the other day, 1 out of every 10 warm starts, you would have to crank it 3 times longer than normal for it to start. In my previous posts on this, it was mentioned about the HPOP and IPR, mention this to Ford and was told that they could do nothing because if they could pull no codes and replaced these parts and were found to be good, the dealership would have to "eat" the parts. Now since I've hit the 100,00+ mark, it takes this long time to crank and when it does start, for a lack of better words, it kinda "feathers" into idle speed...not the distinct, sharp roar to life like it used too. Batteries are good, spins over very fast. New fuel filter, new engine oil and cleaned the AF so I would think everything is ok there.
Was told by a Diesel mechanic to pull the plug on top af the pump oil resevoir and see where the level of oil is. If truck has been not started for 10 or 15 mins, it's down about 1 in. Start the truck and then shut it off and look and oil level is about 3/8'sin. from the top. How normal is this? Also with this on going problem, do you think Ford would still honor the warrenty if the could pull a code or am I out of luck? If my trusted Diesel mechanic could pull a code, would it be there for Ford to see? Bottom line is, I feel Ford should fix this if there is a problem and owning this truck for nearly 10 months now, I can sure feel and hear a different start charecteristic now. Thanks, sorry for such a long post. Maybe I'm too dang particular but when you shell out hard money, you want things right!

01/PSD. 35000K I have the exact same problem you have described. Ford changed the glow plug relay, glow plugs, batteries then played with lenthening the glow plug time and all the other B/S with still no fix. Oh yah, tore the starter all to **** one day trying to get it to start, but once it has started for the first time of the day it starts fine after that. I live in the north of Canada and for the first two winters it started great at temps. of minus 20 degrees C without being plugged in. I was amazed at how well it would fire up. But this past winter it starts real ****ty on the first start of the day and with the 15W-40 oil it idles like crap for a few seconds. Changed the oil to a 10W-30 and for the most part took care of the idle problem but still starts ****ty, even with the warmer temperatures. No codes show up at anytime. I wonder if the oil from the K&N filter is getting on the sensor wires in the air intake causing the problem? Thats the only change made to the truck. Anybody got any other suggestions.
