I bought a 94 F250. 4x4 7.5L hooked to the ZF S5-42 tranny.
My reverse lights sometimes work and sometimes don't. I don't believe it to be a grounding issue (as I can put it in reverse, sitting still, and sometimes they'll pop on after a few seconds)...
I use this switch to run auxilliary lights for when I snowplow, and occasionally NOT having my lights kick on is unsafe.
Soooo, I'm wondering about replacing the backup lamp switch. I looked at a schematic of the tranny and found the part number listed as 15520. I cannot, however, seem to confirm which part is needed - as that's a common # for Fords of all types and sizes...
Does anyone happen to know what part it is I need, precisely - and how difficult installation may prove to be?
Thanks.
EDIT: The part I believe to be correct (at Napa) is #MPE NS6579SB (the cheapo) or #ECH NS6579 (the nice one). Yea? Nay?
I read your first post earlier and got confused. Are you asking for the part # to the rev light switch or what part we think is causing your problem? If you want to try replacing the rev light switch you should be able to go to Napa or the like, and ask for a rev light switch for your truck. It is on the drivers side of the trans towards the front, up pretty high, and should have a 2 wire connector going to it. It just unscrews from the trans.

That's what I'm looking for, thanks. Didn't realize I was clear as mud on this one. My bad. The part @ Napa is $11 (with my secret discount), so I have little to lose by trying.
My truck has the exact same problem. I have yet to determine if it is the switch itself, or the super-crappy molded plug that Ford decided to use to plug into the switch. I bought a replacement connector pigtail at NAPA for almost $25, but it is foreign made and not up to the OEM quality IMO.
I can wiggle the connector and get the lights to work. I have smashed down the connector with pliers in an attempt to get the terminals inside to tighten their grip (they don't come out, they're molded in). There is no corrosion on the terminals either.
The NAPA part number (Echlin) for the pigtail is EC193 in case you want to get one there.
When the weather gets nicer, I'll get out there and actually figure out what is going on. I have already messed with this twice and haven't gotten it fixed yet. The third time's the charm, right?
