so i just took the block to the machine shop yesterday. so nows the time to clean up the engine bay a bit. so i have two options try and clean it with soap and water or getting some flat black spray paint!
how would you guys do it?
my engine bay has what looks to be the rust proof stuff that comes from the factory or they do it as an up sale at the dealer.
I bought some degreaser spray from the A.parts store, sprayed it on, let it sit for a while, then washed it off with hose. Then I spray canned it with paint. Pressure washer would be good too.
Replace the seal in the front of the trans b/f installing engine.
Clean it up however you want. However it appears from your photo that there may be a brake fluid leak at the vac booster which I would spend my time on.

Good eye on that. That's what my brake booster looked like until a few months ago. If the fluid is coming out of the back of your master cylinder (and not just a bad fitting, etc.), you need a new master cylinder.
However, a bad master cylinder causes a brake booster to go out. A bad brake booster causes a master cylinder to go out. So, if you put a new master cylinder on, and the brake booster is bad, you'll end up with a bad master cylinder again soon. It's usually best to just replace both. It's not a hard job at all.
If you don't have access to a pressure washer, but have an air compressor, most of the 99cent type stores (Harbor freight, JC Witney, pep Boys, etc) sell a pressure washer that connects to an air compressor and has a second induction/suction tube for water. While the flow of water isn't high, if you use very hot water, pre-spray the surface with simple green or similiar product it will remove (under control) a lot of grime away.
The master cylinder was replaced last year the brake booster seems to be fine still if it does fail one more time then most def its the booster I do have to fix my rear brake my ebrake doesn't engage anymore.
Are you wanting to clean it up just for looks, or for serviceability? If I had a clean bay like that I'd do pressure as others have said, then a degreaser or oven cleaner, wash brush and dry.
After that, companies are starting to make undercoating in a can. Last week in Oreiley I saw the one that'd be perfect for you. Either a purple or pink can, 3M product. $18. Rust proofing, some sound deadening properties, paintable. So slap that on there for protection, then put on your choice of high heat paint for cosmetics.
