460 long block

I need to get a long block for my 95 f250. The heads are trashed. Can't find heads at a reasonable price and the motor has 103k on it and really don't want to waste my time by having more issues anyway. Anybody have any suggestions besides Jasper? Need to get this truck on the road...

Your gonna spend a pretty penny for a long block pretty much anywere you go, I'd look at a junk yard for a set of heads that can be used/rebuilt if your in a hury.

I put a reman 460 long block from Promar in 2008.

Very happy with their service and I have not had any problems with it.

Thanks

I just ordered from Promar. $2100.00. I'm now at the braking point of what the trucks going to worth with the money i've spent. But it still a alot less than the 40K 250 I test drove a few months ago.

WOW, they've gone up quite a bit since I got mine.
IIRC I paid $1499 for the 79-87 carb head version

No core charge. But if you don't give them one they nix the warranty. They put more new parts in then anyone else I've seen for the money. It should work out good. I hope they are quick with the ship. They are in Jersey not too far from Mass.

I'm way down in the 'toe' of Connecticut.

Distance was definitely a consideration in my choice.

Mine was delivered by their own truck in just a couple of days;

Came well packaged, on a skid;

And had the gaskets I needed to complete installing the tin and intake;

I don't know about your later model, but if it uses the oil filter adapter be SURE to remove the insert from the block!

(best pic I have)

Glad to hear that you used them, they are state of the art on rebuilds. They really pay attention to the details of preparation, cleanliness, and going by the blueprint, along with options on components of your choice if you wish.

Have you used them too, or do you know of them in some other way?

They were voted one of New Jersey's top companies. A few years ago I was thinking of sending to them a spare dive block that I have, along with a set of c9ve-a heads. Very nice people over the phone, I wanted them to rebuild the lot...still might, but going from fi to carb does not seem to be popular here...people here kind of talked me out of it, what do you think?

It sounds like for the price of a DSII swap and a 750 vacuum secondary carb you would have a very potent pickup!

Don't know what you'd do about your Cat though...
If you have to deal with a visual inspection.

My truck was the last year for 'NON-CATALYST' engines.
I have a huge school bus muffler and 3" stainless tailpipe.

What is DSII?...I do not have to worry about any stinking inspection

I don't know where you are. It's not filled out in your profile...

If you lose the computer you're going to need another ignition system.
The DuraSpark 2 ignition system (distributor, coil, ignition module, harness) from a truck like mine is probably the simplest reliable thing going.
No points to clean and check.
It was in millions and millions of Ford vehicles from the late '70's until the last of the carbureted trucks in 1987.
