I have noticed that when I warm my truck up for 5 or 10 mins in the morning that the transmission temp gauge shows a temp rise long before the the engine. This is before even putting the truck in gear.
Is this normal or have the wires been crossed? In my 2500HD Shakerado it took some driving to get the trans. temp up.
a mechanic at ford told me there is a themastat in the system, i don't know if this bs or if it is true, my 7.3 trans temp would constantly change depending on the load, but this trans temp never changes, even pulling a 20,000# trailer through the mnts.

My 03 does the exact same thing, I have A pillar gauges and it shows very little movement on the aftermarket gauge at start-up. Ford apparently has placed the thermocouple relatively close to the initial heat source, down stream of course. I pull a heavy trailer so the first item I bought was the triple gauges, after close watching, of the relationship between the two gauges…you have nothing to worry about. IMO
The port tha we all are using to install the trans temp sensor is a test pressure tap and does not circulate very much oil. Also the port is not as deep as it was on the previous trans used so when you install the sensor you pretty much block off the port, I have been looking into this since I got the gauges and have come to the conclusion that I wll be either installing a boss in the original trans pan or getting a aftermarket pan with a boss already installed.
To sum it up, the gauge will stop at about 100 Degrees F. It will stay there until about 220 Degrees F. By 250 Degrees F, it will be in the yellow. Read about it the site above.

I talked to MagHytec a couple of weeks ago. They didn't have a tranny pan for the new TorqueShift yet. They were finishing up a preproduction run to check for accuracy, flaws etc. I used both tranny and diff covers on my '99 F350 dually. The install is easy, tranny gauge on the '99 rarely moved off the 140º peg. No diff gauge on that one.
Same as Tim here I email'd mag-hytech and they expect one out in early 04, and yes the only true gauge in the cluster is the fuel gauge even if is so enaccurate. even the water temp gauge is a stepped version of the trans gauge.
We will have the #F5R110 tranny pan available by February. It will
have a sending unit port on the rear of the tranny in the dog-leg
portion of the pan Thanks for the inquiry and patience.
