I went out to start my truck this morning and when i turned the key on and the pump came on it stuttered several times. I say stuttered because it never stopped. The sounds of the pump changed for a few seconds. It started and drove fine. Its done it 2 or 3 times today. I crawled underneath the truck and had my wife turn the key on so I could see if I could see anything. Its definitely coming from the pump under the driver. There were no leaks. Is my pump going out?
Sorry about the explanation of the noise. Its hard for me to describe.
Sounds like it's time to check your fuel pressure. My pump would cycle on and off continuously when an o-ring in the FPR failed. My fuel pressure was bouncing up over 100 psi and causing the pump to shut off until pressure came back down.
Is the FPR at the bowl? I recently installed an FRx kit but used the gold spring since it was the one that was recommended. I need to go look at getting a gauge to see where my pressure is at.
that is it, that FPR is bad about getting stuck if you play with it, the same thing made mine stick. you can make a gauge set up for $20 that can read fuel or oil psi.
the spring you put in rides on the FPR plug.
