Good day folks, I am comtemplating a complete tune up of my 06 EXPY 5.4, I am well aware of those pesky plugs I have to deal with. I am also contemplating the replacement of all COPs, but I do not want to pay premium price at the stealership. Can someone recommend a vendor and a good brand/type of COPs for the 5.4 ? Has anybody experienced with these ones below sold on ebay ? Any input is greatly appreciated.
Unless your getting codes or the truck is running bad, don't waste your time or money. Do you have 100,000 miles on the plugs? If it ain't broke, dont fix it!
The plugs have 109K. They are due for a replacement. The truck runs fine. Since I am removing all the COPs to get to the plugs, I thought I should replace them as well.
No offense, bu the philosophy "if aint broken don't fix it" does not apply to me.
I am a jet pilot . When a jet engine part reaches its limits/hours we replace it by a brand new one.
Thank God we aviators don't think like that, Imagine a part that was not broken 5 minutes ago fails at 34.000 feet ???
With the recent issues with Global Automotive COP's and their customer response to the issues I can no longer support them. I will give my business to UneekSupply on Ebay who has proven they do stand behind what they sell and also source their parts from a better manufacturer. The price is about $7.00 more for the set and worth it to me. Just make sure you use SP515 MotorCraft plugs and being in the AeroSpace industry you should know what Kroil is. I would get a can of AeroKroil while its still on sale Offer code - LATE its 2 for 12.00 now with shipping. Also get the lisle plug remover from Amazon.
Thanks for all the responses. Since the COPs on the 5.4s rarelly fail I will take your advise and not replace them, also because they are easier to get to than the plugs.

I wouldn't say that. Read around here in threads on misfires. It is common as the odo gets higher. They get old, they fail. It doesn't have anything in particular to do with the 5.4, it is just parts aging. They are a wear item and are on the maintenance schedule. I got 20k more out of my cops than my plugs, and in hindsight should have done the job once and been done.
IMO if you're going to take them out might as well replace them, I bought a set off eBay and they've been working fine for over a year now. Just do some research on the supplier and you'll be ok... Pay attn to the condition of the boots as they come out, don't know about the newer 3 valve engines but the older ones have some trouble spots with oil and moisture collecting in the spark plug recess. Could indicate future trouble spots..
Im going through this now.I plan to replace them, and keep
the stockers for spares if ever needed. No codes, runs fine.
For the piece of mind, while servicing plugs with over 100k.
