Yes I did see the Damage and the bogus repair work that was attempted!! And I do agree with you about that area being resonably thick steel. I did do a Carfax. No incidents were reported. Problem is if Crash Damage was'nt reported and it was fixed in some guys backyard it would'nt show up on Carfax?? I'm really at a loss I have to fix it I'm to deep into it now!! I really do love my truck but have to admit this was a real kick in the ***!! Anybody have a front end cheep?? LOL!!
That's the thing that really sucks about the way Carfax pushes their service, people just don't stop to think about the fact that only warranty repairs and repairs reported to insurance make it in to their system.
A vehicle could be rolled into a little ball and then stuck back together using parts of ten different vehicles and as long as it's not reported to insurance there's no way Carfax can know about it.
Can you shoot us any pics of the parts you need? If they're available as seperate parts I can gaurantee to we have the best prices you'll find on them.
You could post them here, PM them to me or e-mail them to FORDSVTPARTS@HOTMAIL.COM and I'll see what I can do.
Its possible that it was used as a plow or salt truck.
What difference does this make?? Plowing causes no more rust than just driving, and last I checked salt comes out the rear of my sander
With the amount of liquid and the use of straight salt by the state /towns the last few years we are all in for some surprises sooner than later.
If it were me, I'd just weld on a new spring perch. If that's all that's damaged, it's not that big of a job. If you can't find a used one, any halfway decent fabricator can fab one up fairly easily. It's gotta be a hell of a lot cheaper than replacing the whole axle!
I agree, if there is nothing wrong with the rest of the axle, see a fabricator.

You can end up with a lot more snow, slush and stuff packed up in odd places with a plow truck depending on where and how it's used and how it's cleaned and maintained.
Not saying all plow trucks will rust and fall apart, just that they can be subject to alot more abuse than a truck would normally see.
It doesn't make much difference in this case anyways since it appears that the truck was damaged and incorrectly repaired by a previous owner which is why it has issues now.
