I am looking to decode an F-750 firetruck that we have. It is our parade truck and in very good condition. It's VIN is F75FWR33166. We don't know what year it is what motor etc. It's titled in texas as a 1979 but it looks older the motor still has an oil bath air cleaner and slip in oil filter cartridge. Can anyone help. Thanks Joey

Welcome to FTE
F75 = F750 (gas).
F = 391 4V FT engine.
W = ? No such assembly plant code. It's either a V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant, or a U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant.
R33166 = 1973.
FT engines installed 1964/78 in 500 series and larger trucks. Were available with either the Motorcraft FL-1A 'spin on' or FL-20 cartridge oil filter.
Oil bath air cleaners are common in these trucks.
Suggest you ask further questions in the Large Truck forum.
Thanks I am trying to find a floor mat for it. Now I have a buddie in the Air Force looking up NSN for back stock. I double checked that 5th letter and it is definately a W
The only W Ford Plant code is Wayne Michigan which opened in 1957 and did produce some F-series trucks, but that is just info I found on the net. Bill is much more knowlegable than I am on the subject.

Where on the net did you get that info from, wiki wiki? There is no W assembly plant code listed in any 1948/2001 Ford Truck Parts Catalog.
W = Wayne MI Passenger Car Assembly Plant.
L = Michigan Truck Assembly Plant (1960 thru at least 2001).
F = New Dearborn Truck Assembly Plant opened a coupla years ago at the Rouge. The tub in my sig pic was assembled there.
HM = Highland Park MI assembly plant from circa 1907 thru 1952. Originally assembled Model T's thru 1927, then assembled trucks thru 1957. Now is a run down spiders paradise, houses FoMoCo records, old furniture and other stuff.
The H assembly plant code replaced HM in 1953: H = Detroit Truck Assembly Plant (1953/57).
