Horrible squeaking when turning

Ok I found out its the ball joints I took it to a mechanic to get it checked out he told me replacement parts alone will come out to $400 (wtf?) and that's not labor. He told me the control arms need to be replaced when doing that? Is there anyway around it like getting just the ball joints?
Thanks
02 screw FX4

(btw I'm getting my gears and lift installed today) :-)

$400 is crazy! I replaced every joint in the front end this past summer on my 03 crew with moog stuff. I bought it all from rock auto and it didn't even come close to 400. If your uppers are stock then you have to replace the whole arm. If you go with a moog upper then you can replace just the joint later if needed. I've done ball joints on every F150 I've had and its a pretty easy job with the right tools

I don't know the history of my Ford but if it's like everything else on the truck they're probably stock. So I could just buy the moog upper ball joints and keep the stock arms?

No you would have to replace the stock control arm with a moot that has a removable ball joint in it. First I would try to go by a parts house and look for a grease fitting that has a needle on it. You can push this into the boot of the ball joint and grease them. If there is no slack then that is the only problem. They need grease. Try that before you buy all new joints. Not having a grease fitting was not one of fords better ideas.
