So two days ago my truck stalled at a red light but it started right back up. I kept going down the road and my fuel filter light came on and she started running rough when over 2000rpm, i dropped down to about 1900rpm and the light came off and she ran fine (assuming). I got home and I drained my tank to see if the fuel was dirty and it seemed ok (found some old diesel in the shed that has sat for maybe 6 months 10 gallons). I dropped my fuel filter and it was 3/4 full. Its a brand new filter and i have a brand new mechanical fuel pump. No leaks on the ground. I'm guessing i have a leak in the suction side somewhere. I look at the tank selector... whatever its call doohickey. It looks wet from all six lines about an inch from the doohickey. My guess is thats where I might be getting the leak. It does this on both tanks but the front tank cant even idle now. Any ideas before i tear the whole fuel system apart?
any type that will seal the fitting
i would just use the red tacky kind, something that will dissolve in diesel eventually (so that it doesn't build in your system)
if you don't need two tanks, you can just bypass it to one tank.delivery and return.cap off the two unused to dead tank.just keep the selector switch on one tank in the cab and fill up as needed.
this is what i did to mine when it failed until i replaced it latter, then a bad tank which turned out to be silly, as i don't drive over the interstate at all and never have a use for it lmao.
you'll be smelling like diesel for a while after tackling this one.have fun.
yeah, i have a new one on order right now. got lots of diesel on me already.
My next question is about an electric pump. priming this fuel system takes forever and i want to get something new. any suggestions on a pump that i can get for my truck?

unless the selector valve is cracked some place and it works then it should not need replacing ! there are orings in the connectors that could need replaced or one or more of the connectors could be cracked !
new valve, new lines, new ep. still doing the same thing. going to the tanks now to see how the pick up tube looks. project is not turning out to be an easy fix anymore...
Well i took two rubber hoses and put them on the metal lines before the fuel tank selector valve and dipped them into a bucket of fuel and the truck ran beautiful. I'm pretty lost right now. Took both my tanks down and checked the pick up's and i cant see anything wrong with them.
dont see rusted out pickup tubes? they're very hard to see.the only way i could tell my sending unit pickup tubes on my rear tank are rusted is because i can tip the bed up with the e-pump pulling and i see the air bubbles.you need to look real close after cleaning them up.
Well she runs again. Never really found out where i was getting the problem, replaced every fuel line, new tank selector valve, installed an electric fuel pump, replaced the breather valves on both tanks, and made new pick up tubes on both tanks. But now she runs better than ever and its time to get back to work again. Thanks for everyone's help
