One minor item, if your truck has an ammeter, it can be a royal PITA to deal with since it uses a shunt to produce the signal. Just be aware that the charging system on 80-86 trucks is strange to say the least.
Here is some more info on doing the swap plus a longer list of donor cars/trucks. This mod is extremely simple and it may very well work for you as a direct swap with no mods needed.
"Signal-to-noise ratio is sometimes used informally to refer to the ratio of useful information to false or irrelevant data in a conversation or exchange. For example, in online discussion forums and other online communities, off-topic posts and spam are regarded as "noise" that interferes with the "signal" of appropriate discussion."
Some of them must have a shoe size larger than their IQ.
You have a battery charging meter in the truck?
If you install a 3G alternator it will just cook, or catch on fire.
Yes. You can disconnect it, as I and Bill suggested.
There are plenty of wiring diagrams linked in the thread and the alternator install tech I posted.
The S/N ratio in that thread makes for some VERY difficult reading.
Yup. And I seem to have contributed to the background noise rather than the signal. Sorry. (Oh, I guess I missed that the S/N ratio was explained, so here I go with more noise. But, as an ex-amateur radio operator I understood at least.)
Gary, I was referring to the thread on FSB that Bruno linked.
Did you participate over there?
LOL! No, luckily I didn't contribute to the noise over there. I guess I missed that point, and probably several others as well. I'll go back to axle bearings and seals.
