on my 300" six, I had to get this style of pulley puller to remove my power steering pulley.. there was NO way that I was going to get it off using a regular pulley (jaw type) puller, and almost destroyed the pulley in the process while trying it.
+1 on the right tool shown above. That thing is ON THERE and you will most likely bend the pulley with a normal puller. I got the kit for around $30, but you can probably rent/borrow from your local parts store.
With the proper tool you won't have a problem holding it. As everyone has said, it's on there! it will make one heck of a "pop" when it first starts to move, then lots of creaks and pops as it comes off.
