I have a O8 CC LB 6.4. I also have a full winter front on it and it is commpletely closed.
Lately it seems as it takes 10 to 12 miles of city driving after a 10-15 minute warm up time. I have the scan gauge to watch this and the idiot gauge doesn't go to the center as it used to. Took it to the dealer and they said no leaks so the tsb about hyper extended thermostats doesn't apply.
The question is ...does this seem normal? It was 17 degrees this morning but last week it was in the upper 20's. Same thing.
Then to top it off they charged to put inthe pcm flash..
Am I nit picking or what????
If its that cold and you want heat quick you are going to have to plug it in! In town driving is not a good way to warm up! I would have not paided to put in the pcm flash.
I agree, I watch mine every morning and its 10-12 miles to get to normal op temp. Engine Oil Temp and Water Temp reach the same temp then I know I have reached it. Even towning, it takes at least 6 miles to reach operating temp.
What is wrong with the new flash?
I thought that with the complete front blocked that it would warm up quicker. i retired last June , memory is shot but do remember that gefore I got wo work that the temp hit 190 with no problem and that was only five miles. I was a mechanic for the last 29 years so I am not a rookie. Not sure about the diesel but on cars 190 is the magic point for closed loop on the engine. I don't know if its the same for diesel. Does any one know if the is so?

Hi Bob,
What temps are you seeing? All I could find in your posts was that the needle doesn't get to the center anymore.
Thanks for the replies. My temp got up to 191 today kept going back to 188. With the radiator blocked off by the winter front I just thought it would get hotter than 191. It took about 8 miles of driving today and the temp was in the upper 30's.
