Steering Column Bracket

I sure am enjoying where I'm at in the build. I have struggled with what to do for many years staring at my truck sitting static. Since I bought a donor truck I have discovered a wealth of parts that I can cut up and find a use. Below is what I worked on today. I used two connecting rods to make a fun bracket to hold up my steering column. I need to complete the bottom half to fit through the fire wall. In the last picture you will see the aluminum bracket that I will mount to the fire wall to hold the brake booster and pedal.

Don't know that I've ever seen connecting rods used as steering column mounts! Looks pretty cool Stephen . Can't wait to see some of your other creations. Have fun with it.

I was gonna use a connecting rod for my steering column mount, but my column is from a bronco II and it is only 1.5" diameter ! I would be looking for a briggs and stratton connecting rod! Maybe someday but not right now

My donor truck is an 81 F100. I bought it thinking the engine was a 351w but it was a 255 V8 4.2L. I am using the connecting rods and steering column from the 81. Clear on this would look great. Thanks.

Attached is what I worked on Friday. I had military duty sat and sun so fri was all I had. The last pics did not have the panel for the column through the fire wall. I shaped a panel from scrap I had laying around. Cut a right angle so the column could fit in then rewelded back. I used another connecting rod (crank bearing end) and welded the top half to the panel. This is so I can later adjust the column in and out for my needs. The bottom half of the connecting rod (not welded to panel) tightens to hold lower steering column in place. I will clean up welds later, after all the mock-ups. Next I worked on the brake booster, master cylinder and brake pedal bracket (all taken from 81 F100 donor). Nothing special here just had to figure out where I wanted it placed. That was a bit difficult but I think I want it directly under the column. I need to support the top of the bracket to something under the dash and make some adjustments to the rod length. The gas pedal is just laying there in correct location for eyeballing foot travel.
