Just bought a 1978 F150 4X4...400 ci, with a Holley carb...I know it a 4 barrel double pumper...how do I know the size...no tag on it. Looks like maybe a 650?? It sits on an Edelbrock intake...any help would be appreciated!! Thank you!!
Well, It is possible If you get the number off of the front top of the air horn, usually driver's side on a holley, stamped and small, 4 numbers often then a dash sometimes with another number, there are databases online that tell you exactly what it is. Holley tech support is very helpful too.
I was told its too much for a stock 400?? It has an Edlebrock intake and headers...I know the floats are either bad or sticking...cause I went to adjust the floats and fuel squirted out of the adjuster screw when I turned it...so bummed.
Fix it! The 4150 holley is the worlds simplest carb. If you have fuel squirting out the set screws it just means your pump is working. Go slow to adjust. Might pay to pull the needle & seat and clean. Good luck!
BTW 600 is not to big for a 400. The jets can be swapped inside of 10 minutes and the boosters changed if they are to large. The power valve can be changed or even plugged. Don't give up on it, There's a reason all the big boys run them.
I just bought a 400 that has a Holley 3310 on it, I'll find out this weekend if it's too much carb. My 351 has a 600 cfm edelbrock, seemed like it was about the right size for it.
