My friend just got a new van and gave me his old one. It's a 92 E250 6cyl. Great van, runs AWSOME 2 issues.
1. No first gear
2. No illumination lights in instrument panel
I can live with no first gear for now as I am putting in a new tranny next month what really bothers me is the electrical. The passenger air bag light keeps blinking and beeping if I take the light out and I can't see anything at night because there are no lights in the instrument panel (besides the blinking airbag).
I have checked every fuse, relay, connection, bulb, everything seems fine. Everything in the panel works but the illumination lights WHYYYY!!!!!.
What am I missing please help!
check the fuse for your dash lights, i know you have looked but its prolly a fuse thats missing. ill look for the correct number. if the air bag light is blinking look under the seat for the plug and plug it back in.
With any electrical issues check the fuses and they are seated tight. Then check all the harnesses to be sure the connectors are seated tight.
Now for the big question, did the van ever have the stereo replaced? If so check the wiring as the dash illumination most likely was cut into during Stereo install.
The dash light is number 5 I believe and yes it was blown when I first checked. I replaced it and still nothing. I checked it again and it is fine. The radio was original but I replaced that yesterday and checked all the wires while doing so. Is it possible I need a new instrument panel?
No I did not connect it. I didn't think I needed it? However with the old radio when I would start the van it would work fine, but when I turned on the headlights the display and light would turn off but you would still here the music. Backwoods right? So I got a new headlight control switch and it did the same thing. Without the radio illumination hooked up it works fine. The radio wiring was a challenge none of the negative speaker wires omming from the radio are hooked up I my the positive. When I would hook up the negatives the sound would. It out if turned up past a whisper. I found a wiring diagram that was almost correct except that it said I should have an orange with black strip wire it insted I have 2 black with white strip wires??
Ok got the lights fixed. It was the blue w/ red stripe wire, loose in the harness where it connects to the instrument panel. Now on to the next issue, the air bag light. It blinks 3 times stops then 2 times. Like a code 3-2,3-2, over and over. Tried disconnecting the wire under the seat and reconnecting but it still does it. Any suggestions?
By the way thank's wizzy214 and pstruwing for the help.
Cool thanks, got it all fixed up. It was the clock spring.
NOW. Shanked the fluid and filter in my transmission today because it was leaking and I wanted to put a new gasket on. Everything turned out good except that the leak was not comming from the gasket. I. The back, passenger side of the trany is some sort of mechanism that sticks up and out. It has a few wires in it. What is it????
The leak is comming from around where that sticks In.
What is this part, can I remove and repair or replace it and how?
Alright. I droped the trany pan again and was able to pull the solenoid housing out. Looks like the trany got hot because the electrical circuit board that the solenoid sit on was warped, bent up. This combined with a blown out o-ring popes the whole thing up and out just enough for the fluid the escape. I was able to heat the orcutt board up and bend it back. Took electrical contact cleaner and cleaned it, the solenoid an all the wires and connections. Installed a new o-ring (just a bit thicker than the original) and put it all back together. Guess what no more leak and to top it all off my first gear is back. Yup I now have a fully function transmission with no leaks. Soooo stoked. Thanks everybody for their input.
