instrument panel lights. Musician that drives mostly at Night....
I have replaced the Blubs!!!
I know for a fact that the hi/low beam switches in old chevys used to cause similar problems, I'm guessing that there're not wired much different in the Ford's. Did you replace the hi/low switch before or after the problems with the fuses? Are you sure you've got the wiring connected to the switch without any strays sticking out?
Sounds like a pinched wire or insulation off scraped off a wire that is touching something, most likely under the dash that's grounded, which would explain your problem. I would get a flashlight or trouble light and try to look up undernieth your dash for something obvious and even pull out the instrument cluster. You can get that out in 10 minutes. The hardest part on that is the headlight switch ****. It has a catch on the backside of the **** that you have to depress with a screwdriver or something along those lines, or at least that is how I got mine off.
If you have an ohm meter, I'd pull the fuse and check ohm out from the equipment side of the fuse to ground and start unhooking things one at a time behind the dash until the ciruit opens up, that is if there is a short showing resistance.
Off the top of my head, I don't know which side is the supply side and which is the equipment side. If your ohm meter can do volts or you have a test light, just pull out the fuse and see which side has 12 volts and which does not. You want the side that does not have 12 volts.
By the way, when exactly does the fuse blow? Does it happen immediately after you replace the fuse and before you turn on the lights, or does it happen after you turn on your lights? If it happens after you turn on your lights, my guess would be the actual headlight switch in the instrument panel or the wiring leading up to it.
Well, if your like me (always low on cash, that is), your best bet is to start with the things I recommended above. I've personally never had this problem, but that's how I'd start in on it. Someone may come along in the next day here and give you some more pointers.
I has Corrosion here in the red connecting two poles togather. hoping that was it, so I cleaned it off. I will have to wate till Light to check all the wires..
Changed the Headlight switch. Fuse is not blowing now.
But still same problem. someone said sometingh about the Turn Signal Switch. I guess thats the next thing on the list..
