Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a Ford guy and I've built a few late model mustangs in my past. I've had a rusted out '67 Mustang Fastback on the backburner for a few years waiting to be rebuilt. I always had a love affair, from afar nonetheless, with 53-56 F100's. But I resigned myself that building one would be far in the future for me.
I was at my friend's shop a couple weeks ago where my fastback is being stored. I was looking it over getting ready to start ordering sheet metal to begin the build when I saw out of the corner of my eye....the girl of my dreams....the girl that made me forget about my current girl, the fastback....a beautiful fat-fendered '53 F100. My friend could see the lust in my eyes and added fuel to the flames when he directed me to look under her hood. What was under the hood proved to be my undoing....the original flatty that still spun freely.
Suffice it to say....the rest was history. A deal was struck between the friend and I for the new girl to be mine.
So the process begins....
I see alot of research here in my near future!
Edited to add pics:
And last but not least....she doesn't look like much but she still spins freely....

Welcome, Nighthawk to the best old Ford truck forum on the web. Plenty of guys here to give you answers to your questions, and free advice from lots of experience (present company excepted). I'll start the request for pictures, but I will surely not be the last. Instructions for posting pics are at the top of the forum page under: Read First:48/60 Forum Tips, Tricks, How To's! and HOW TO POST PICTURES
Thanks for the welcome guys! I knew the request for pics would be coming....I should have snapped atleast some cell phone pics before I left the shop the other day but I left hastily with nothing more than the VIN, excited about starting to research the build.
As soon as I can get back over to the shop I'll snap some and post 'em up. I've been on 12 hour midnight shifts lately and haven't been able to back over there. Worse case I may get the friend to send me a couple.
Plans, at the moment, for the truck are to stroke the flatty. I'm looking into a blower for it possibly....unsure which transmission I'm going to run but probably a T5. Coilover IFS and 4 link for sure....but I'm researching possibly bagging it. And discs of course....
Welcome Nighthawk - sounds like you have some fair plans in mind. You'll also find that these beauties are much more likely to stand out than just another pony car - not that there's anything wrong with that.

Happy Motoring!

DW, that was exactly my thinking....I was somewhat torn about ditching the fastback build but as I thought more about it....I thought of how many fastbacks I see at any given show/cruise-in and how many 50's F100's that I don't see. Especially F100's with the original flathead still powering them. Few and far between around here.
Welcome to FTE and good luck with your new project...sounds like a plan! Not a big flathead fan but it's your truck. Plan on big bucks for a blown and stroked flathead....
Welcome to FTE... Planning stage is fun and mind blowing all in one... Lot's of great people here, and just about anything you can think of someone has done or tried at some point. I'm looking forward to following your progress.
Welcome to the forum! I'd love to have a flat head, but mine was long gone when I got the truck. Post your location so you can get together with other members close to you.
And GNW, I understand what your saying about the money to build the flatty. Just the blower alone costs twice as much as one for late models....sheesh.
