I to have a lead footed wife who may drive it from time to time she can make our 4 banger fusion get 23 mpg or less Lol. It will be towing a 19 ft bass boat so 3:73 should be fine. Are the 4:10 much worse on gas?

It will hardly even notice a 19 foot bass boat no matter which gearing you get. Some people have actually reported better mileage with 4.10 gears than 3.73. The modular engines (both 5.4 and V-10) like to turn at higher RPM than the old pushrod V-8s, so the lower gearing doesn't necessarily mean less gas mileage.
I know it has the FX4 package what differnce is there with that than just a normal 4x4 package. Thank you guys for the advice I have wanted an super duty forever.

gsmith --- Once again...in 2003 the V10 SD did not come with 4:10 gears. Just an FYI...
If it has the 4:30 gears...then you will lose about 1-2 mpg on HWY...but get better mpg towing.
I tow our 18ft toy hauler and with quads, camping gear, guns and dogs my truck with 3.73's does just fine. The road I most frequently tow on is quite steep and twisty, and to keep the trans from shifting in and out of drive, I just stick the shifter in second and keep the rpm's between 2500 and 3000 and it does great. Sooooo much better than the 5.7 Suburban it replaced. In all honesty, for me it's the perfect truck. If I put bigger tires on it in the future, I'd probably gear down to 4.10 or 4.30 depending on what I put on it, but for now, the 285/70-17's are about right with the 3.73 gears. Incidently, I rode in my Dad's '07 Dodge with the 6.7 Cummins in it yesterday and found out that his truck gets 16 mpg in the same driving area that I get 12 mpg in, so I don't think the V10 gets bad mileage at all considering what it is.
I test drove the V10 today it looks nice and it ran pretty good until....
I stopped at a speedway to put a few gallons of gas in it cause it was really low.
When I went to take off the truck start missing out. You could hear it pretty good at idle but when I went to get on it you could feel it stutter and it lacked power. I drove it back to the dealer. I don't know if the gas caused it or not but it was running fine until I put gas in it. Then it started running bad. The dealer pulled it in the shop and his mech said. He thought it had a clogged injector.
They are going to get it running and let me test drive it again
tomorrow. Should I be worried about this are the V10 gas sensitive?
check the Gas engine section here. I would recommend you find a 2002/03 F-250 with a 7.3 diesel!! I think the mileage will be better and the power mods will def far exceed a v-10 you can find them for the price range you have set!!
Good luck!
post links to the trucks you are looking at, we can help you!

Absolutely NOT...at least with my experience. It was high mileage SD with V10 that you test drove? You really just do not know how it was cared for...that goes for the axles, tranny, coolant, etc. So...take it with a grain of salt...per se.
If it was an injector...then it was. But it could also be a COP (coil on plug). All the modular engines have them...and they do go bad once in a while.
