My wife and I were just given a 1989 F-250 4x4 7.3 auto non turbo extended cab with a full bed. Well now were getting divorced........
Not the trucks fault though. Basically it came from her side and she needs the money for a new place, so I agreed to sell it. Unfortunately I don't know hardly anything about this truck but I'd like to get a good price so she can help me out with the lawyers costs and pay me back in general. It's complicated but were still getting along well, just realized we should have stayed friends.
Anyway, the truck only has 108k miles (I think), is super clean and straight, and no problems (except shifts a little harder than what I'm used to) as far as I can tell. It's got new batteries, new front springs (not such a fun ride), and the tranny seems to be up to snuff. So what should we ask for it? I figured $5k but looking at other slightly newer rigs on CL, that seems low. Thoughts?
First of all, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your marital un-bliss. It would help to know more about the truck. Where are you located, and where was the truck previously registered? If this is an east coast truck or other foul weather climate, then rust will be an issue, and the value drops considerably. The odometer on that truck is only a five digit readout, so it could be 108k or 208k or 708k. Without service records your value drops significantly. Pictures would help, as many as possible! Unless this truck is pristine, I think 5k is unrealistic. The 89 F250 came with a ttb dana50 front end which is supposed to enhance ride and handling, so it shouldn't ride rough unless it has been modified or is worn. Around here (Denver, CO) that truck in great condition would only fetch around 3500 bucks. Sorry but that is my $0.02
Don't be sorry, that's good to know. It was previously garaged in California and it looks as close to brand new as it can get without completely brand new paint. It was used very little for hauling a 5th wheel. I'm in Portland, OR. I'd throw in some pictures but it doesn't seem to want to let me.
