ccv mod - FAIL

I've read a few of these stories now. Wish I had before I did this mod.
Here's mine

On my 2002 Ex, did the mod about 6 months ago. This past Tuesday, drove down to work (15min drive), part way there, stopped at a light and realized HUGE cloud of smoke following me around.

Parked at work, left it there, didn't know what was going on and didn't have time to look at it,, so I booked with Ford (Doh!). Booked truck in for Wednesday night.

Tuesday night, checked oil before I moved the truck to my inlaws. Low. Added 4 quarts!!! My truck doesn't go through any oil

Wednesday night, drove it up to ford, huge white clouds off and on. While waiting there, I thought... damn, I wonder if my CCV line is plugged. Checked the end of it, no pressure.... That must be it!!. Pizza sized oil puddle at the tailpipe, oil POURING out from under the engine. Parked it, asked Ford to take a look (told them I was pretty sure of what the problem was), and asked them to clean up the oil.

Sure enough, oil/water in the line, oil blew out the dipstick.

DO NOT do this mod without some kind of drain and DO NOT leave it for long periods without draining it,.... if you live in a colder climate.

BTW, they added 7L of oil. 11L of oil in 10km (6 miles). Some burnt, most on the ground and engine compartment.

Believe it. Works perfect now with the line cleaned out

I did the CCV delete mod because it did not smell good and was kind of embarrassing.

If the routing of the line is on a downward slope you shoulnt have any problems at all. Did yours have a slight dip in it where the water and oil accumulated and couldn't drain out?

so what caused that problem? Do you have an oil catch can? What plugged the outlet?

Fo sure, proper install is needed. I had a low spot in the line without a drain (or catch can). I'm sure it wouldn't have happened if I had not done this.

I wanted the end of the line at the back of the truck though. I don't mind if those around me smell it a little, but I didn't want to smell it

I'm likely going to just leave a downward slope on it as far back as I can, then cut it off for now. Then later, I'll figure out a canister/drain.

Just couldn't believe when others talked about dumpin huge amounts of oil, Then mine did it even worse!!!

Learnings. It's all part of the fun of workin' on the truck.

been running mine for about 50k miles. had one issue very similar to yours, i had a dip in mine where the oil accumulated. fixed it and never had an issue again. Sounds like it wasnt the CCV mod that was a failure, most likely the install was a failure

Only diff with mine is that it is an Excursion, so I wanted it right to the back to get rid of the smell.

It won't get blocked again.

And you're right, the install was a fail.

Just mounted mine a few weeks ago. Did it to Guzzles instuctions, other than I did not build oil trap. Tube vents out side of truck under driver side step. I can see vapors at stops, have not noticed any dripping.

Same here, but did mine about a year ago. Noticed though, halfway along frame, developed a "sag", nothing that compromised the function, but didn't want it to become a problem. I cut it there just for assurance, but then, the smoke/smell at idle got too much. Had it piped over the axle until i realized late last summer, that it was being submerged when launching my boat. Since the mod was still working, didnt cut it then. Now, i have it plumbed back into the intake...
