Lower Orange Boots

Is it possible for the lower orange boots on my 2002 to leak a little oil? Both have fresh oil around top and bottom of both boots. I tighten clamps they were loose. Very small pool of oil below them in valley.

Thx.

Very likely, the CCV mod will keep those boots from getting the oil pooling in them.

Absolutely. That's what the CCV mod fixes. Keeps all that oily crud out of the intake system!!

I had oil in my valley and down the back of my block when I first got my truck. I Googled 7.3L Powerstroke Oil Leak and found this site. Got told about the CCV mod and leaky boots under the intake. Did the CCV mod, cleaned up my engine, and haven't looked back since.

When I changed the oil a couple of tracers of oil were on the pan. Check valley and found a small puddle under the boots. Felt behind boots top and bottom and found fresh oil. Clamps were loose though. Everything else was dry and clean. I will check into the CCV mod.

Thank you very much.

Look into replacing those boots as well these boots get soft after years of the oil soaking into them and Riffraft performance here can get you a great deal on all 6 boots for 99 bucks. Do the CCV and tighten them up and you'll be okay for a bit but consider the boots.

How hard is it to replace those lower orange boots? I have read up on them and replacement and cleaning is needed. Any tricks or tips that I can use? Do I remove anything to get better access to them? I would like to address them now and read further about the CCV mod.

Thx...

Its pretty straight forward Whitey, and not hard at all.
tools you will need: screw driver, needle nose pliers, and 7/16 socket

1. remove IC tubes from intake manifold (X pipe) (7/16)
2. remove MAP line from intake manifold (needle nose)
3. disconnect sensors from manifold
4. remove clamp holding manifold to turbo
5. loosen clamps on orange boots top and bottom
6. wiggle manifold and lift out
7. replace/ or clean and replace all boots

It looks like a big mess of wires and sensors and tubes, but when you get started you'll find out its really not that much stuff.

My boots are clean ever since I tightened them down a few years back. Does that mean I have low blow by or something?

Brandon:

1) So I remove blue and black boots from manifold.

2) Then take off top two sensor's with 7/16 nuts on them.

3) Unplug bottom sensor.

4) Remove clamp from manifold to turbo

5) Loosen orange boot clamps, top and bottom.

6) Wiggle manifold out.

Everything is in the picture right? Well maybe not orange boots.

Thank you very much.

Mike

Actually Mike the 7/16 is to remove the clamps holding the black and blue boots on.

You do not have to remove the sensor plate, the red and green tubes will just unplug from the fittings.

Brandon...Does the red and green tube in the middle of the picture below, pull out of the black rubber 90? I see how all the other disconnect. Probably change black and blue boots. They are very soft. I really appreciate the help.

I have these http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=133 with no CCV mod and no leaks or seeping oil.

Not saying anything is wrong with the CCV mod suggestions, just throwing out another option to the OP.
