Front Spring Replacement Help

ok guys and gals, heres my issue. my truck im driving is a 08 f250 regular cab 8ft bed, 4x4 w/5.4L. i got back in august and it came with the snow plow prep package. the front suspension is crazy stiff it really doesn't bother me that much. but i was wondering if i could put softer front springs on the truck to help smooth the ride out. then just had a leveling kit to the new front springs to level the truck out. my current springs are 5600# thats what the door tag says. i am not sure what springs i would need to put in, 5200# springs i think they offer would they help smooth the ride out since their 400lbs lighter. let me know what ya think or what my options are thanks everybody

i found out that skyjacker offers a 2" lift kit that includes softride front springs and a softride rear add leaf for the rear. if i where to put this lift on the truck in place of my stiff front springs. woud that help out my situation at all. of course i would put new shocks on with it too.

I wanted to let everyone know also, i do not have a plow on my truck. when i purchased this truck it had the snow plow prep package on it. i have a no plans anytime soon to put a plow on. thats why i would like to put softner springs on the front of the truck.

My truck came with 4400lb springs. I have a plow so I use the 4400 springs with timbrens.

Thanks Brock. How is the ride on your truck? Did you add a leveling kit of any?

i wouldn't install the 4400 pound springs, they will sag in a year plowing. id go with the superlift level springs. i have a set on my 78 F150 and they are the smoothest riding spring ever

My truck came with 4800lb springs and rode pretty good. I have a big arsed plow so i put 6000lb springs and it rides like a truck. They are very easy to switch out.

A stupid question but do you need a spring compressor or just let the axle drop down then remove the retainer bolts from the bottom and top ?

I am used to Honda's and Toyota cars and have always had to use a spring compressor.

Another option you may consider is going with one of the softer spring options and also adding air bags in the coils. We offer kit 80537 for the F250's. This will allow you to have a comfortable ride when not plowing and simply add air when you put the plow on. If you also wanted, you could add a controller to adjust the pressure from in the cab rather than filling them up manually.

Just wanted to make sure you knew about some other choices.

no leveling kit. I have a quarter inch of travel before the timbrens hit empty. It rides okay empty but bangs pretty good on railroad tracks and such. It rides real good with the plow. Before I put the timbrens on the ride was good (for a truck) with the 4400 lb springs.

I think this thred got lost in the Bermuda triangle somewhere.... Mike does NOT HAVE A PLOW! also DOES NOT HAVE ANY INTENTIONS OF GETTING A PLOW AT THIS TIME!

Just wants a softer, more complient ride, and is letting the masses know that the truck has the plow prep package.

Ok Mike hope that helped, and hope this helps too... My truck also bounced all over the place, new shocks and the removal of the overload springs in the rear makes it feel like a different truck all togeather... Much Much better, hope this helps

I did not need spring compressor. Remove tire, brake line, and drop the axle to the ground and it falls right out.

w/o plowing 4400 or 4800 will give you a much improved ride. Even better if you throw on RS9000XL adjustable shocks.
