Question Old sagging springs???

The old workhorse (95 F250 4X4) has a case of saggy front leaf springs from driving with an 8' Fisher plow in the winter. Also, it has 105,000 miles on it. Question is, should I have the springs re-arched and add a leaf or replace them with new ones?? A local spring shop has a great reputation for heavy-duty truck spring repair, so I'll probably have them do the work(no garage of my own). I'd like to have the truck sit level and at the same time have a beefy enough spring to carry the plow without squatting the front end to much. Maybe new springs with and extra leaf to lift it a little and carry the extra weight when needed????

Old sagging springs???

I would have a new spring pack built. A lot of thin leafs will ride much nicer and can carry just as much or sometimes more weight, than just a couple of thick leafs. If it was my truck I would have them build a stack with 6 or 7 thin leafs that are arched enough so that the truck sits level when empty, this way the truck will still ride nice without the plow. But when you put your 8' Fisher on (about 800 lbs, if I remember right) the truck should sit about how it did with stock suspension and no plow. Hope this helps...

Old sagging springs???

i might be mistaken but i think 95-96 model years had a concern of weak springs in the front. i believe ford issued a bulletin for replacing front springs with revised ones. i know i've done a few in my area afew years ago and believe they were the same years.
would recomend just getting new ford springs which will be the updated ones and install them.

Thumbs up Old sagging springs???

MARSHALL O351,

Do you mean a recall by Ford to replace the springs as in they pay for it???Or they give you springs and your responsible for the rest?? Or you they just recommend you replace em and foot the bill yourself?? I dare venture they are the original springs ,but I can't be sure as I've had the truck less than a year. I'd gladly let Ford supply the springs, they can probably afford it better than I !!!!

no it's not a recall, it seems the only veh that had a saggy front were veh that were used to plow, when the springs went weak and the front end sagged it caused a bigger than normal negative camber problem, the customer didn't notice anything wrong until his tires became worn, most of these veh were covered under warrenty and repaired at that time. sincerely scott

Thanx Marshall,

Your info is very helpful!! I will be sure to get the proper springs for the added weight of the plow,I wondered why this truck sits so much lower than most other F250HD 4X4's do. To bad the original owner didn't realize and have it fixed under warranty!!
