I've spent some time lately visiting some of your galleries looking at some really nice work. I for one am a huge fan of fabrication work, where we take a sheet of metal and bend it, pound on it, weld it and voila you have a tailgate or a column drop or a new truck bed, and you get the idea..............
Unfortunately a lot of this nice work lies hidden in a gallery that we don't necessarily know is there.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how we could showcase this type of work, short of just running a continuous Fabrication Thread? Maybe there's something already in place that I don't know about.
I know this might not be of interest to everyone, but I know we have some very talented fabricators on this site and maybe some that have never tried building from scratch that just need a little nudge.
Any interest or suggestions? Or just forget it and go to the Hamb site.

I'm interested. I shy away from the HAMB cause you end up so far afield.. I like keeping it closer to practical uses..
This is exactly what I'm talking about. I have never seen this thread and it's the kind of thing that I would like to be able to find easily. I would sure like to see stuff like this in one place.
The Hamb site is loaded with talent, but they are not all building trucks like ours, not to mention that there are a few jerks there too.

Nice work in that thread Sam!!
it would be nice if there was support for cascaded topics.. so that u could put chassis, body, engine, fab, etc, together..
i`d love to have a ``just fabrication `` thread, even if its about different years of trucks or even cars, tools, its suprising what ideas you can pick up!
I'm in! i think it would be a great thread. for some of us there isn't a lot of this kind of talent in the immediate area so they have to check it out sites like these and dig into peoples galleries.

Yeah, like that killer work bench you just built. For those of you that haven't seen it, he's incorporated a lot of neat features that I for one intend to copy. Hope you don't mind.
some time ago, maybe even before IB took over, a number of us put together the sticky you see at the top of the forum... the one labeled " Tips, Tricks and How--tos"
It is a collection of data that most of the old guys knew that the newbies would ask a thousand times... I think RM Ferguson was the editor with lots of us sending him data. We talked a admin to sticky it and it's been invaluable to lots of folks..
I think a fabrication thread or sticky would be a great idea. over on Garagejournal.com there is a thread on "lets see your toolbox" where users/members post tool box pics and discuss different tool boxes... it's been going strong since 2005 is over 320 pages long and has had over a million views... YES... A MILLION. I'd think a fab sticky could go forever over here and really be useful to us...
so... who wants to volunteer to be the collector/editor/referree ???
yeah definitively like the idea of a fab section. there is a ton of talent here thats kinda hard to find because its hidden in different galleries. aint got no computer skills so dont really think i would be any help
That would be great, I get to digging though the galleries and cant hardly find my way back they are rabbit holes for me! I kinda wish that their was an dark side/hot rod section that covered 1947-1996.......I think it would be easy searching for info on doing a fourlink, air bags, mustangII front ends, and fab work stuff like that? Their is a few folks doing the same thing I'm doing to my truck but in different year trucks.
How about a fabrication or build thread where only the original fabricator or builder can post to it?
That way the thread would be short and to the point. One where the post *****s can't fill up the page with worthless postings. So you want to ask to OP some questions......Send a PM
A sticky or sub forum would be an invaluable source of information especially for those of us who have never done a build before. The amount of knowledge out there is staggering however tapping into this knowledge is very time consuming and in alot of cased its just the luck of the draw that you happen to open the right gallery and find what you're looking for or the right person posts an answer you can use. I can see how much work would be involved and do wish I knew how to do more than check my e mail on a computer but I sure hope someone with computer savey will see fit to step in and help out. It's a great idea and would benefit alot of people, after all no one can do it all them self.
I like the idea, not because I have anything to offer, but because I dont. And I love to watch what our more talented members are capable of. I have learned almost every thing that I have ever learned here. Im the type of person that has a hard time learning out of books, however with the advice of, and following the work of fellow members, Ive surprised myself of what I can do. There are many super talented folk here (definetly not me), and it would be great to showcase there skills,in some manner.
I think its a great idea. After 4 years plus my truck is finished and a LOT of fabriaction went into it, One ton truck so no aftermarket box parts, and a lot of rusty holes, adapted 75 brake parts, added power brake booster, etc etc. As the process went along I took pictures of most every detail, and have put togeather an album thats around 400 pictures-- just dont have enough patience to upload that amount of material to the gallery as it is a slow process. (I rather be welding than uploading pics LOL). But ya, we're mostly the same type of folks on here and enjoy and can appreciate what others put into restoring these old trucks.
