2009 Questions

The local dealer here in town has a used '09 on the lot with real low miles. I've been considering taking a look at it and was wondering if there were any common problems/concerns with the 2009 model year. It is a 5.4L, 6 speed auto, 4x4 SuperCab XLT.

Thanks

Some vehicles have shifting problems when coasting, like a hard downshift between 2-1, not so much during braking so make sure to coast at low speeds, like around 8 mph. Also possibly at higher speeds but can't remember which gears. There are TSB fixes for them. The most other common problem seems water leaks either thru the 3rd brake light or satellite antenna. Check headliner for stains.

Check for leaking tranny fluid at the bulkhead - another TSB fix available.

I have an '09 with 51K miles with no issues except the evap canister had a leak which is also a less known issue. But I did add sealant to the leaking prone areas before they developed.

Concur with Stormsearch's post. I have an 09 and have experienced all of the systemic problems identified. The latest of which was the leaking coupler at the transmission harness plug in. The fix is realtively easy and inexpensive but it can be a pain. Other than that I love my 09 and have had no other issues. Rear lamp was replaced fixed leak, computer flashed fixed hard down shift, new coupler fixed trans leak...
