2010 Ford Escape AWD PTU problems

Hi All:

Anyone have experience with this? A couple days ago, New Years Eve to be exact, I noticed a drop of oil on the ground on the front drivers side of my wife's escape. It's a 2010 Limited, V6, AWD, with approx 51k miles on it.

I crawled under there was pretty tight, looked like there was a leak of really light oil, coming from somewhere, quite a bit of the front suspension was covered but I never noticed anything on the ground so I never recognized the leak, not sure how long it has been there for.

Truck was getting close to 5k on oil so took it to dealer for change and to have them verify leak. Dealer said on Saturday that I have a leak from the PTU, as well as when they rotated the tires, a small leak from left rear axle. They immediately quoted me some really big bill before I told them we have a 7 year/70k warranty, and truck is going in Friday for repairs.

1) is this a common issue on these? I did some research found common on the Edge and Flex.
2) thoughts on the rear axle leak? It's not a pinion seal , it is close to the rear drivers side tire.
3) can my wife drive it safely for a few more days? Rougly 25 miles round trip to work, so approx 100 miles before we can leave it for the day at the dealer Friday. We are most likely relocating soon (End of January) and I want her to be safe on the commute.

Thanks

Not a common issue at all, the axle seals are more common. I wouldn't worry about driving it till the dealer gets to fixing it.
