97 PSD fuel issues

Hello All
my buddy has a 97 PSD with a bunch of miles on it. He went to start it up the other day and it would not fire. sprayed it with ether and she would run until the ether ran out. If he kept spraying the ether it would stay running. So I suggested changing the CPS. He did that and still same issue. Changed fuel filter and same issue. Anyone out there have any other suggestions?

What's the fuel pressure?

Unless he has the glowplugs unhooked he better quit using the ether like that or he will have big problems.

STOP with the ether! please. What were the symptoms when it stopped running?...NEVER MIND I see it is a sudden no start. Has he done any work on it recently? Is it cold there...have good batteries?
#22 fuse is good? good. Need a fuel pressure reading (to see if it is fuel related). Does it smoke when it cranks? (if no...then it may not be a fuel problem)

Should be at least 40PSI but no more than 75(?)...while cranking with VERY GOOD (jumping it) batteries
Help us help you/your friend.

my buddy does not recall it smoking while cranking the truck.
do you need a special fuel pressure gauge to take the reading?

a simple tire pressure gauge will work, you can see the test port in the pic above, middle of the pic just to the right of the fuel filter.

if it is not smoking at cranking then it may not be fuel related.
Does he have a "Cali" model?...Does he have a blue sticker on the right (passenger) side valve cover? Can he get any codes from a OBDII reader?
