Dumb question, but is it full of oil? Simple things first, full of good oil and fuel pressure.

You can try to empty the fuel bowl and then crank it to see if it is filling. If it is not smoking...I think we may be barking up the wrong tree

when he cranked the engine with the fuel filter out it filled up but slowly.

what tree do you think we should be barking up then?

we are open to suggestions. Both of us are baffled with what it could be.

my first suggestion to him was the simple stuff. oil and fuel pressure. then i remembered about the maxi fuse under the hood and had him check that.
to no avail we are at our wits end.

it was next to nothing according to him. he did not hook up a gauge to it but when he pressed it in while cranking it there was very little fuel coming out

Sounds like either bad pump, plugged pickup tube in tank(did he try both tanks?), or maybe a clogged regulator. Is there any leaks visible? Just for information, how old(miles) is the fuel pump?

Hey sparks, you have a 7.3? try to install your IDM an see if'tl fire up. Any year 7.3 IDM will work....don't worry nothing will "ZAP IT". It may very well be that. Normally it gets full of condensation. Pull the old one and shake itnext to your ear in a quiet place and listen for water. IIRC it is 8mm bolts and 10mm wire harness...(anyone).

he is unsure of age of fuel pump.

he did say that there is a fuel leak of the sensor coming out of the fuel bowl

yes i do have a 7.3 and would be willing to disconnect my icm and see if that is the issue.

If it is your "water in fuel sensor" or "fuel filter restriction sensor" that is leaking....just unplug it and and cap it...you'll be fine.

If it is the fuel heater connection, leaking...you may have problems....do you have the WTS (Wait To Start) light with the ignition in the "ON" position?
