Mike @ 5 Star is worth every penny. I've run the 87 Perf tune and the 93 Perf tune he built me and they are both great. the 93 Perf tune is a beast on a stock truck and it's safe to daily drive.
If you want a dash mount...look at the SCT Livewire. Nice set up. Comparable to the Edge CTS.

ok guys, i am hearing a lot of talk about 5 star tuners. what kind of tuner would you suggest for me and about how much would it cost? again i have a 5.4l and i am wanting more mpg's along with more power for towing.

Honestly...the engine should not be affected if you pay attention and do not mess with Mike's parameters/settings.
The transmission should actually last longer based on theory. Firmer/quicker shifts should reduce the amount of heat, as a slipping trans - what gives soft shifts - builds heat.
Driveline components are another story. More torque...faster converter lockup, etc may have adverse affects depending on conditions and your driving style. Basically...ANYTHING can be broken if you try hard enough
