Hey guys, I have seen other guys on fte use those long aluminum "finned" trans coolers in the "c" of their frame rails basically right next to the transmission. I think it looks great and routing the cooler lines would be a lot easier lol I am on my phone so I can't post a link of the type of cooler I'm talking about now but will later. I was thinking about using a 30" one in between the frame rails. BUT I am kind of worried about that location inside the frame like that. Would it keep my stock AOD cool enough?
I got one similar ,but was afraid to try it,i opted out for a double row radiator type with a cooling fan mounted to it. Iwas afraid the finned one wouldn't be enough altough they say it would cool ok. Not running yet so wont know how good this one works.
I switched from the radiator cooler to the finned style mounted on the chassis when I had my engine overheat problems year before last.
Unless you intend to spend a lot of time in bumper to bumper traffic you should be fine. Mine is the 18 in version. I didn't measure any real change in tranny temps.
I have been using a power steering cooler from a 78 f 150 on my 64 c10 turbo 350 with a stage 3 shift kit for about 15 years now. Drove the heck out of it no problems yet.
I have a fin style cooler thats like a little radator mounted under the pass running board. It lies flat with about 2 inches of space between it and running board. 17,000 miles and no problem.I tow my boat and utility trailer [16 ft ] with it.
