I have a '71 F250 4x4 with the ram assist power steering set-up. I would like to convert it to the integral power box and port that box to run the ram from the current set-up. Is this worth the effort? I know the integral box drives better than the ram-assist set-up.
While I have never used the factory ram for this (since it can't be re-built) I do not see any reason why this would not work. Sounds like a reasonable solution to the steering issues.
I do have firsthand knowledge that steering these big trucks with just a crossover and power steering is a very good modification, helping with a little hydro assist could not hurt.
I am a couple of weeks from actually trying this myself, just so I can actually have the answer to this question. If you get something together before I start, please let me know how it goes.
I am going to college, working, remodeling my house, and am married to a beautiful woman. You will more than likely beat me to the conversion. It takes me a long time to engineer things and then gather the parts and then have to find the time to actually do the work. I wish I would have attended college right out of highschool instead of waiting till I was 27, now I'm 30 and am tired of not having any time. Sorry, rabbit trail.
Glad you are trying this first. Do you have any diagrams on where to port the integral box? That ram assist is not overly confidence inspiring.
Well I can appreciate your situation.
I am, no longer in school, (own my own business, so even a better degree would not bring any more money). Remodeling never stops. When you finish with one end of the house, the othe side that you completed a few years ago, needs attention again.
I am divorced from a beautiful woman that can continue to be just as georgous as ever, with the money I am forced to pay her.
I did start college just after high school, and I have a couple of years on you.
I just may get to my project before you, however, I will be using a Saginaw box, but still willing to share any info I have with you.
I have discussed a few things with you already, and I do have some info on the box you are interested in using.
I will have to dig that up, and will PM you with the results.
I can only offer assistance with the steering, you are on your own with the rest. LOL.
